Developer finds work-force housing niche

Two local development firms recently joined forces to build work-force housing in South Florida and they have four projects under way with more on the drawing board.
Wood Partners, headquartered in Marietta, Ga., but with South Florida operations in Boca Raton, has teamed with ARKS LLC, a Coral Gables developer. The two are forming a company called Urbanice LLC to build multifamily work-force housing in the Little Havana section of Miami, downtown Miami and Coral Gables. Urbanice means “urbanize” in Spanish.”Wood Partners is one of the largest multifamily companies in the country, but the Little Havana market is much different than what we’re used to,” said Jay Jacobson, Wood’s development partner for South Florida. “We wanted a local partner that knows the ins and outs.” Read more
